Who is an Immigrant / Newcomer?
Immigrant could be the person serving your breakfast or coffee in the morning at the drive-through restaurant, the Midwife or a nurse delivering babies at the hospital, the world class scientist working at the research institute, the executive working in the financial industry, the student at the community college, the young family living next door to you who came from a country from across the world, that you don't even remember the name they said it was and have told you story about how they fled their country in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes on their back, had no time to gather personal belongings, nor had the chance to say good-bye to loved ones and the friends they left behind. These are all examples of who an immigrant could be.
Also let us not forget that people who are already living in Canada are moving around the country, from one province to another or from one city or a town to another, in search of different things and with different reasons for their moves and relocation. This is the reality of the world that we live in today and how someone could easily become an immigrant or a newcomer in a community like ours. Factors such as economic reasons or in search of better opportunities motivates people to go to new places, or for fun, thrill seeking adventures and all sorts of reason. People also come to settle in the community for family reunification, marriage and for other personal reasons.
